PERSONAL COMMENTS:

Our three children spent their summers at this cottage, from newborn to their teens and early twenties.  This beach is safe (with proper supervision, of course!) and a delight for all.

There are starfish and razor clams to find, hermit crabs and snails to tickle, ticklefish to dance on your toes, and meteor showers, constellations and the Milky Way to explore in the dark night sky.

The area abounds with artisans and storytellers, giants and mines, farmers’ markets, festivals, concerts and live theatre, and Nova Scotians make just about the best kind of neighbours you could ever wish for.  We will miss “our beach”!

EXTERIOR SHOTS: VIEWS FROM THE COTTAGE

Sandy Cove just after high tide

This is a private beach (no public access), and  very few cottagers rent out their properties.  There is a common stairway down to the beach (not the one shown here), which is maintained by mutual goodwill.

The Beach as the Tide Goes Out

Now is the time for sandcastles, beach volleyball, starfish hunting, snail tickling, and long walks!

At low tide, the raft in the centre of this photo is high and dry.  In fact, the distance from the edge of the embankment to the water's edge is over 100 meters!  This beach is so vast that you could probably run 8 games of touch football at the same time and no one would run into anyone else.

But when the tide is high, the water by the raft will be well over your head! Tide charts are available in Pugwash, to help you plan your day.

Looking East

Here we are looking East, towards Pugwash (which looks like it’s about to be hit with rain!).  Great Blue Herons love to hang out on the rocks just below our cliff.

In the picture below, we are looking North towards Prince Edward Island, which is sometimes visible without binoculars.  When the tide is in, snorkeling over these rocks is great—the schools of fish and the crabs don’t seem to mind!

Sunsets…

No two …

Nor three…

Nor four…

are ever the same!

EXTERIOR & INTERIOR SHOTS: VIEWS OF THE COTTAGE

Facing the Ocean

The windows in this photo face North, over the Northumberland Strait.  The three in  the foreground are part of the living/dining area, and the one to the right is in the
master bedroom.

The deck is made of pre-treated lumber, and it and the cottage were raised in 2004, with new footings everywhere.

The blue box to the right of the deck houses our pump and well, which we share with the neighbours to our left (not shown).

Facing Sandy Cove's Amazing Beach

The patio door faces West (to all those fabulous sunsets!).  The original cottage was  16’ x 16’, and an “L” shaped 8' x 24' addition was built about 12 years ago.

As you drive up to the cottage…

…this is what it looks like

From L – R, the South- facing windows are for:  the master bedroom (opposite the one in the previous photo); the entranceway (blue door); the “biffy” (bathroom); the Kids’ room.   Hanging below the Kids’ room window is the hose hook-up.

The deep blue horizon below the sky is the Northumberland Strait.

The small structure to the right with blue trim is the outhouse (with a designer’s touch on the inside!).

Although not up in this photo, a length of clothesline is run from the hook (top left of  the master bedroom) to the telephone pole at roadside, giving plenty of towel and bathing suit drying space!

The patio door and all windows (exception:  blue door window, above) have custom-made shutters, painted blue, to keep out the winter.

The living / dining area  facing East

The cottage walls are a mix of chipboard and plywood, and are not insulated.  But believe us, you would not want to be here in the winter!  The road into the cottage is impassible by car from late fall to early-mid spring.

N.B.: Some furnishings will not be included in the sale.

The living / dining area  facing North

These three windows face North (towards P.E.I.) and the couch faces the patio door, looking West.   N.B.: Some furnishings will not be included in the sale.

The Kitchen

The galley-style kitchen includes a stove, fridge, microwave, and toaster-oven (all  major appliances will be included in the sale).  N.B.: Some furnishings will not be included in the sale.

The Bathroom

The bathroom (“biffy”), which faces South.  All furnishings in this room are included in   the sale.

The Master Bedroom

The Master Bedroom’s beds were custom built for maximum storage capacity beneath the mattresses.  They can be configured either as a double bed or as twin beds, as shown here.

N.B.: Some furnishings will not be included in the sale, but all beds will be.

The Kids’ Room, below...
